New Book: It is like getting a silver star sticker at elementary school for your perfect attendance. Does not cost much to keep elders salvating like Pavlov's dog.

If you were an elder, how many judicial committees were you on, (if you can even remember how many)
by gubberningbody ini was trying to calculate the number and i lost track at 30-something.
now i was an elder for 15 years, so i was wondering how that figured for averages among others..

About 30 - 40 in 25 years. I deliberately avoided (using the "can't be objective line as I know br/sr______") for any apostasy, circumstantial fornication/adultery or loose conduct cases - there was always a lack of "evidence". I would rather sit on the ones where someone confessed and thus did my hardest to empathize and help them. The blatant ones - well, I tried hard. I feel pretty bad about the ones where the result was D/F.

Did you use your holiday/vacation to have a holiday from the JW's?
by highdose inlooking back, one of the reasons i used to love getting away was because it allowed me to have a gulit free holiday from the meetings.
i loved arriving somewhere, where no one knew me, my own cong didn't know where i was, if i was attending the meetings or not.
i could just go out on a meeting night, do what i wanted have a meal out with a bottle of wine and no one would ever know!.

Totally. As if I am going to give up the chance to see some great places so that I can hear the same stuff, at the same time and recieve the same treatment in FS as I do at home? I knew of one family who always did the quick drive by to the local KH on Saturday so that they could bump into a few JW's and say "Hi". Then at the next meeting after their vacation bring back BS "Love and Greetings from the WhoGivesARatsArse Cong in GuessWhereWeWere"

What year Did you Stop Attending Meetings - How Long were you a JW ?
by flipper ini'm trying to compare some statistics and figures on this to share later in the thread to see if more long-time witnesses are exiting- or are newer witnesses exiting after a shorter period of time.
and - are more people exiting in the last 10 to 15 years than before.
so your answers would be helpful in looking into this .

Ahh but R&F will say the following:
Rings - pagan, -But the meaining is lost in antiquity
Veil - ward off evil spirits-But the meaining is lost in antiquity
Bridesmaids - confuse evil spirits-But the meaining is lost in antiquity
Bouquet/flowers - ward off evil spirits-But the meaining is lost in antiquity
Attendants - confuse evil spirits-But the meaining is lost in antiquity
Cake - pagan, symbolic of fertility, cutting symbolic of gift of virginity - But the meaining is lost in antiquity
Bride stand on the left - from when brides were kidnapped-But the meaining is lost in antiquity
Honeymoon - pagan - sent with mead to sustain and belss fertilityBut the meaining is lost in antiquityBirthday Cake & candles pagan!!pagan!!pagan!! related to the Greek goddess Artemis, whose birthday was celebrated with moon-shaped honey cakes topped with candles - lost in antiquity but raised to dizzy heights by JW's. The reason it does not show up in the bible? Birthdays are a realtively new phenomena around the 18th century in popular culture.
Real reason: like Xmas, Easter, New Year, Mothers day, Fathers Day, Velentine's, etc - $$$$ not going into the pockets of WTBT$.

Go with a sprinkle of paprika, onion and garlic salt!
Glad we can communicate with you asilentone this way - if we met in person you would see that my asl is attrocious although I find asl is much more interesting than english and powerfully descriptive - such as the sign for adultery!!.
Keep communicating and don't worry about gramma and speelling.

ARRGH - Post Memorial Calls
by Simon Morley inseems that our 1st non attendance at the memorial has put us on the "1 sheep out of 100 radar".
we have been inundated with calls (we usually do a good job of screening) and the drop by in service wed, thurs and yesterday of some of the die/blowhards.
i fully expect another in about an hour.

Thanks TAI: That is what I was looking for, I want to avoid the trap of engaging them in doctrinal issues as the out is the "well the last time I called on Simon he mention this about (insert doctrinal challalenge here) - he sounds like an apostate..."
I will use that line - I like it. I was also thinking about just saying that "I have been doing a lot of praying and my conscience is troubled by that fact that I dedicated my life to God with a selfish motive of survival into the new system. I need to come to terms with that before I come back" I know that many R&F are only thinking about their own skins and harbour gloatish feelings about mass destruction and execution.

I have no interest in engaging in any discussion and wonder if any one of you have the "kill 'em in their tracks" comeback phrase - that is to the point, polite and does not trigger the "ohh they sound apostate" drivel.
It has been three months since not attending any meeting or being involved in the FS. We were just beginning to enjoy getting our lives back and both my wife an I noticed a marked drop in our own stress levels, arguments and imporved physical well-being. The truth has certainly set us free!
